What is plasma fibroblast?
Plasma fibroblast (also known as plasma skin tightening or fibroblast therapy) is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment designed to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. It uses a controlled plasma arc (created from ionised gas) to create tiny points of heat on the surface of the skin, stimulating fibroblast cells to produce collagen and elastin.
This results in gradual skin tightening and improved texture over time.
What areas can be treated?
Common treatment areas include:
- Upper and lower eyelids (non-surgical eye lift)
- Crow’s feet and fine lines
- Forehead lines
- Nasolabial folds
- Neck and décolletage
- Acne scars
- Skin laxity around the mouth
Your practitioner will assess whether this treatment is suitable for the area you wish to treat.
How does the treatment work?
- A thorough consultation is carried out
- A topical anaesthetic is applied
- A plasma device is used close to the skin, creating tiny controlled dots
- The skin contracts immediately and continues to tighten as collagen remodels
The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the area treated.
What will it feel like?
With numbing cream, discomfort is usually minimal. You may feel warmth or a mild stinging sensation during treatment.
What results can I expect?
- Immediate tightening may be visible
- Continued improvement over 8–12 weeks as collagen regenerates
- Results can last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, age, and lifestyle
- Some clients may require more than one treatment
Results vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
Downtime and healing
- Small brown crusts (dots) will form where treatment was applied
- These typically fall off naturally within 5–10 days
- Swelling (especially around the eyes) may last 2–7 days
- Redness can persist for several weeks
Do not pick or remove crusts, as this increases the risk of scarring or pigmentation.
Possible side effects & risks
Common and expected effects include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Crusting/scabbing
- Sensitivity
Less common risks include:
- Infection
- Prolonged redness
- Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation
- Scarring (rare but possible)
- Delayed healing
Clients with darker skin types may have a higher risk of pigmentation changes and require careful assessment.
Who is NOT suitable for plasma fibroblast?
This treatment may not be suitable if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a history of keloid scarring
- Have active skin infections or inflammatory skin conditions
- Have uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune conditions
- Are prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Are using isotretinoin (Roaccutane®) or have used it within the last 6–12 months
- Have a pacemaker or certain implanted medical devices
A full medical consultation is required.
Before treatment advice
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 4 weeks before treatment
- Avoid retinoids, acids, and exfoliation for 7 days
- Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (if medically appropriate) for 24 hours
Aftercare advice
- Keep the area clean and dry
- Do not apply makeup until crusts have fallen off
- Avoid sun exposure and use high-SPF sunscreen for at least 8 weeks
- Avoid heat, steam, saunas, and strenuous exercise for several days
- Follow all aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner
Consent & safety
Plasma fibroblast is an advanced aesthetic procedure and must be carried out by a trained and insured practitioner. A consultation and informed consent are required. Individual results vary and risks will be discussed prior to treatment.
